“I’ll give you a program to follow every night, a very simple program…Read…one poem a night, one short story a night, one essay a night for the next 1,000 nights.”
– Ray Bradbury, 2001 (Sixth Annual Writer’s Symposium by the Sea, sponsored by Point Loma Nazarene University)
This quote from Bradbury served as the inspiration for a new project on my Twitter account, #storyeachnight. Each night I read a short story, and then tweet the story I read (sometimes along with a comment or two). I don’t know if I can commit to doing this for 1,000 nights (and, as it is, I’m only living up to one-third of Bradbury’s “assignment”), but I’m having a blast. I’d love to hear back from you about what short story you just finished, so feel free to tweet about it under the #storyeachnight hashtag.
In more short story news, Jack Ketchum has agreed to entertaining a few questions about “Gone” for next month’s Mama Cushing’s Short Story Society. I have a few ideas about what to ask, but if you have a question to suggest email me at nicolecushingwriter (at) gmail (dot) com.
And in yet more short story news, FearNet posted an interview with various authors about the commercial possibilities of selling short stories as ebooks. An intriguing topic and an interview worth taking a gander at.
